HAMBURGERS & LA STREET DOGS
RECIPE BY: John @ The BBQ Element
HAMBURGERS
On Memorial Day, Hamburgers and hot dogs are a typical fare. This Memorial Day start your burgers off with the right beef! The blend of beef has to be right for the perfect burger.
First off, get your meat from a good meat market or butcher. If there aren’t any good ones around you head to the meat counter at your local store. If your looking for a burger medium rare, it’s nice to stick to an 80/20 blend. (80% lean meat, 20%fat) Medium well needs more of a 70/30 mix. You want that burger nice and juicy, not all dried out.
Start with round or chuck and mix in some short ribs to your ground mix and you’ll be on your way to the perfect burger!
Salt and pepper those burgers and add some salt and pepper. Get that grill preheated from medium high to high.
Slap those burgers on, give em 3-4 minutes til you get that nice sear. Then flip them. Keep in mind not to mess with them. No smashing them down tapping them or pushing any of those juices out. Second side give them about 4-5 minutes and don’t forget your cheese! Add that burger to your favorite bun with your favorite condiments and you have your all American burger!
LA STREET DOGS
Next up, what goes together like peanut butter and jelly?! Hamburgers and hot dogs! So lets take a look at our LA street dog. First get your favorite dog and favorite bacon.
Ingredients
6 hot dogs
6 pieces of thinly sliced bacon
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 white onion, peeled and sliced
1/2 red bell pepper, sliced
1/2 green bell pepper, sliced
Salt and Pepper
4 jalapeno peppers
6 soft white hot dog buns
Directions
Tightly wrap each hot dog with one slice of bacon. Set aside.
Turn your grill to medium. Place the peppers on the grill and cook until charred on each side, about 1 minute. Set aside.
In a medium skillet over medium heat, on your power burner or side burner, add the oil. When the oil is hot, add the onion, bell peppers and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook from 5 to 7 minutes until softened.
Place the bacon-wrapped hot dogs over medium high heat until charred and heated through, 6 to 8 minutes, being sure to cook the bacon on all four sides. Heat hot dog buns on the grill too, if you like. Put the hot dogs into the hot dog buns and top each one with liberal amount of onions and pepper mixture.
